Kimberton Whole Foods has chosen North Star as a beneficiary for February's Rounding Up at the Register program! Rounding Up at the Register gives customers the opportunity to give back to their local community. Shoppers have the option to round up to the nearest dollar at checkout and the difference will be donated to a local non-profit. Additionally, Kimberton Whole Foods will match all customer donations!
North Star will benefit from the rounding up program at the Malvern location:
429 East King Rd.
Malvern PA 19355
Program Update: February 2021
One of our moms, “Kelly,” was in danger of being evicted. She had lost her job due to COVID-19 and had fallen behind in her rent. North Star assisted her with her rent arrears, helping her family remain in their home. “Kelly” is employed once again, working two part-time jobs. We also assisted with her electric bill while her case manager guided her to set up a payment arrangement. “Kelly” avoided a shut-off and is now making monthly payments.
Childcare costs have skyrocketed for many of our families during the pandemic. North Star was able to provide financial assistance for additional childcare for participants whose costs increased when schools closed, went virtual, or when working parents had to transition from paying for after-school care to all-day care.
“Janyse” is one of our most vulnerable parents. Throughout the pandemic, it has been difficult for her to work because she has a disabled child who is seriously immunocompromised. Her children attend school virtually and the household was approved for 40-hours a week of in-home care by a registered nurse. The family is currently looking for a nurse to fill this role. Despite the challenges facing her family, “Janyse” remains optimistic and appreciative of the support she’s received from North Star, including rental assistance. By following the guidance of her case managers, she saved money before the pandemic and has been able to utilize recommended resources to continue making ends meet.
