North Star of Chester County is honored to announce it has been awarded a generous grant of $20,000 from the Foxwynd Foundation, a private foundation dedicated to supporting housing, healthcare, and environmental sustainability initiatives worldwide. The grant strengthens North Star’s efforts in the community, providing critical support for working single parent families when they need it most.
North Star operates a program for Chester County’s working single parent families facing homelessness, providing rental assistance, budget counseling, financial guidance and mentorship. The organization’s mission is to help families avoid homelessness while empowering individuals to achieve self-sufficiency. The grant from the Foxwynd Foundation comes from a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) and will be used to provide rental assistance, as well as utility assistance, for families enrolled in North Star’s program.
“These funds will directly impact vulnerable families in Chester County,” said North Star Executive Director, Donald Neimetz. “Allowing us to adapt to the changing needs of the people we serve.” Funding for other utility assistance programs, such as LIHEAP (a federal program that helps low-income households with their heating and cooling bills), is expected to be cut. “We are ready to meet this challenge and support North Star families affected by the sudden loss of benefits.”
“This grant reflects our commitment to providing timely and practical assistance where it matters most, helping families maintain stability and focus on building a better future,” said Pamela Villagra, Executive Director, Foxwynd Foundation.
Since 1993, North Star has operated its homelessness prevention and self-sufficiency program for single working parents. “The parents we serve want to be independent,” said Neimetz. “But rising rents, low wages, and the high cost of living make this extremely difficult—despite working full time. Our support bridges what they earn and what they need to get by.”
