WHAT WE CAN DO FOR YOU

  • Provide up to 3 years of financial assistance to help keep participant families in appropriate residences for which they will assume full responsibility within a specified period.

 

  • Develop a plan of action for each participant, including plans to address educational, vocational, family and other needs.

 

  • Monitor each participant’s progress toward financial independence.

 

  • Provide a support system of mentors for each participant.​

 

  • Educate the public as to the needs of single parents and their dependent children and advocate for the people we serve.

  • Connect participants to services offered by other Chester County resources such
    as the United Way’s Financial Stability Partnership
    .

  • Unfortunately, we cannot provide one-time assistance for back rent or security deposits.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE

North Star of Chester County serves working single parent families the United Way designates as ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed). Families that work hard but still cannot afford to get by on their own. To learn more about ALICE, please visit the United Way of PA â€‹or watch the video below.

  • Single mother or father living in Chester County with dependent children, including divorced or separated parents.
     

  • Employed at least 35 hours per week
     

  • Struggling or imminently homeless
     

  • Renting but not living in federally-subsidized housing
     

  • No other adults in the household
     

  • Free from drug and/or alcohol abuse (at least 18 months clean & sober)

WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE

The path to financial independence is not easy, but the rewards are great. Parents who follow program guidelines can be proud of achieving their goals. Secure housing, improved credit scores, and career advancement are all signs of stable families, who are the backbone of healthy communities.
