North Star of Chester County has received a generous grant of $10,000 from the Vanguard Group's Hometown Grant Program. The grant will fund North Star's homelessness prevention and self-sufficiency program for single working parents in Chester County.
"We are grateful to Vanguard for their support of our mission and our families," said North Star Executive Director Joyce Lacy. "Corporate giving on this level makes a big impact with agencies like North Star."
Last year, North Star of Chester County helped 131 single parents and children avoid homelessness. Now in its 27th year, North Star guides single working parents through a three-year program of ongoing financial assistance, case management, education, and additional supportive services. "While our financial assistance helps keep hardworking families in their homes, our case managers guide them toward self-sufficiency," said Lacy. In 2018, North Star provided an average monthly rental assistance of $230 per family, which helps demonstrate the impact a gift such as Vanguard's Hometown Grant could have on Chester County families.
