Vanguard Hometown Grants Continues Support of Working Families

Updated: Dec 20, 2023

North Star of Chester County has received a generous $25,000 grant from Vanguard Hometown Grants, to continue its homelessness prevention and self-sufficiency program for working single-parent families. Funding of this magnitude is needed more than ever. Rents continue to rise and wages are not keeping pace with the soaring cost of living. Funding from Vanguard Hometown Grants will have a direct impact in the lives of hardworking families right here in Chester County. North Star will provide ongoing rental assistance, to keep local families stably housed, in addition to case management services, to guide program participants toward self-sufficiency.

For 30 years, North Star has served working single parents, offering qualified families as much as three years of rental assistance to avoid homelessness, in addition to guidance and education to help them achieve self-sufficiency. “Our approach to homelessness prevention combines ongoing financial assistance, to support and stabilize families in the short term, while three years of guidance from our case managers prepares them to be financially independent and successful in the long term,” said North Star's Executive Director Donald Neimetz.

Vanguard Hometown Grants Program provides community grants to nonprofit agencies

in the communities near and around where Vanguard operates. Funded by the

Vanguard Group Foundation, the program is run by local Investment Committees made

up of crew (employee) volunteers, who select and vet the giving strategies. Vanguard

Hometown Grants Program currently operates out of Vanguard’s Greater Philadelphia,

Greater Charlotte, Greater Phoenix and London offices.

Since 1993, North Star has helped hundreds of families avoid homelessness. Support from organizations like Vanguard ensures more families will continue to have the hand-up they deserve.
